Honoree

Auntie Ma'iki Aiu Lake, Margaret Ma'iki Aiu Lake, attended Saint Francis School in the 1940's. Former principal, Sister Bonaventure, OSF invited Ma'iki to board at the Convent until she graduated. The Saint Francis Senior Courtyard, dedicated in honor of Ma'iki, is named "Kahikolu"-Three in one-"Faith, Hope and Love", the three principles of Auntie Ma'iki. Auntie Ma'iki is recognized as the most important hula teacher of the 20th century, and is known to have brought about a "Hula Renaissance."

Julia M. Brown '54, Director Emeritus of the alumni board, began volunteering at Saint Francis School in 1999 after retiring from 32 years with the Blood Bank of Hawaii as a registered nurse. She served as President of the Saint Francis School Alumni Association from 2001 to 2003. Julia continues to work as a valued member of the Alumni Association rallying alumni to the support of her beloved alma mater. Julia's genuine love and appreciation for the school and our alumni make her a treasured member of our volunteer family.

Head of School, Sister Joan of Arc Souza "Saint Francis of Assisi prayed that God would make him an instrument of peace, that God would give him the strength to bring light where he found darkness, joy where there was sorrow; Saint Francis believed it is in giving that we receive. Saint Francis School awards tuition assistance to deserving students so that they may have the opportunity to share in the Saint Francis experience which encourages them to become instruments bringing God's peace, light, and joy to their world."
